Fashioning Legacy

Hope, Resistance, and Identity
Now - September 26 | Weekdays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
William H. Hannon Library
The exhibition will be on display until September 26, 2025. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The William H. Hannon Library's summer exhibition highlights three collections tied to an immigrant family who created a new life in 20th-century Los Angeles. The fashion objects, collected by a member of the Venegas family, showcase different designers whose inspirations and life experiences evoke a deep love of fashion, heritage, and beauty. When these objects were put into conversation with the library's other Venegas family collections, they resonate with familial themes in surprising and revealing ways. This student-curated exhibition highlights the hope, resistance, and identity formation of one family's experience following their flight from the Cristero War in Mexico, their migration to Los Angeles, their deep Catholic faith, and their love of beauty and the craft that makes beautiful things.
